U.S.A. after almost 2 years!
Layla and Ed picked us up at the airport late on the night of June 1 and
we invaded their house for 3 weeks!
We had decided to go back to Alaska and, after much debate
decided to buy a truck with a cap on the back, put as much stuff in the truck
as possible and mail the rest of the stuff to AK. We would tent-camp for the 9 weeks it would
take to arrive in AK on August 18.
We had already made arrangements with Gary Kofinas to begin
negotiations to purchase his home in Fairbanks;
we were going to settle on our Schwenksville home on June 21; David had accepted an offer to resume his old job with Design Alaska and I was invited to apply for a job with Terry Chapin.
The day after we landed we went truck shopping and purchased
our truck that Wednesday which was fortuitous because by Thursday I was sick
and by Friday I took to bed (first Meadow’s and then Layla’s and then the
couch) for about 2 weeks, canceling all our lovely visiting and trips! A visit the the ER and much aggravation
later, and I was as good as I was going to get.
Poor Layla! We
invaded her house, filling the living room and sitting area with all the boxes
and art work that we had collected from our friends. And there it sat for three weeks while we
waited for our cap which arrived the Thursday before the Sunday that we left!
When I felt a bit better we took a trip with Meadow, Sage
and Noah to the Grounds for Sculpture in Trenton. What a great sculpture garden; designed to
touch, climb and, of course, photograph.
The greatest displays were sculpture’s grouped to look like painting of
famous masters arranged outside, and those arranged inside within a picture
frame that we could photograph!
Bea came to Layla’s several times, but I was only able to
have dinner with her once since I was sick.
We had the settlement on our house on a Friday; Saturday we
met at Neshaminy Park for a Weissman get-together and Sunday we left!!!!
