Bilboa and Thanksgiving in Spain

We took a 26 hour ferry from Poole, England to Santander, Spain.  However, we had a cabin so it wasn't really a great hardship.  We camped in a strange campgrounds where we could not find the registration people for a few hours, but finally did and all was well.  They directed us to a local restaurant where we had an absolutely fabulous meal.  When the owner saw that we were once again making fools of ourselves and licking our plates, he kept plying us with win.  What a great night!

The next day we went to BILBOA!!!!  We had wanted to go to this wonderful Guggenheim museum the last time we were in Spain, just after it opened, but we did not have the time.  What a great place.  The museum itself is the attraction!  The exhibits are all experimental art; some we understood and some were quite a puzzle.  But there was no mistaking the appeal of the building itself, from the giant topiary puppy in the front, covered with pansies, to the titanium and glass elevators, to the way the building was integrated into the pedestrian bridge that was near it to the shimmering skin of the building.  Enjoy the photos!

And then there were the exhibits.

There were many of these giant ellipses which we could walk through and, spookily enough, get lost in!

And then it was Thanksgiving which we made in Yertle, with turkey breast, stuffing, potatoes, apple pie and a great phone call from Layla and family!
