Real Food in Northern Spain

We left Bliboa for northern Spain and the first thing we did was head right to the market!  Fresh fruits, vegetables, interesting meat and fish of all kinds.
Here are pig faces both fresh and salted…great for photos but not something I would actually eat!
This was a real fishing area and we loved the look. Especially the signage!

For those of you who knot, check out this handmade baby jacket.
We read something about Dolmans, prehistoric burial cairns and found this one in northern Spain.  Very little signage, no protection, just sitting out in a park.  It had an open area in the middle and these very large stone blocks arranged around and then covered.  Most haunting.

We then found this amazing ruin of a Celtic settlement on a cliff near the sea.  Again, no one was around, not much signage and no protection whatsoever.  A really large site, beautifully placed and all the more beautiful because we were the only ones there.  One of the great things about traveling is coming across the unexpected and unplanned and this segment of the trip was full of surprises!

Many of these houses had these old storage sheds on the property.  Apparently they were not used  any more, but people keep them for decoration.

We camped about an hour away from Santiago de Compostela, the end point for all those pilgrims who follow the Way of Saint James, ending at the tomb of Saint James in this amazing cathedral.  Each day there is a mass for the pilgrims who are identified by their walking sticks and a scallop shell tied around their waist or on the walking stick.  The whole route takes about 40 days to walk!!!!  The most popular round is from St. Jea-Pied du Port near Biarritz, France to Santiago.  It is 780 km!

The church is magnificent!!!!!!
